Frequently asked questions

Yes, the lodge is suitable for families with children, but please keep in mind that it’s a large space and not fully childproof. The deep bathtubs require supervision for younger guests, and there are stairs and heaters throughout the property, so care is advised.

We can provide a limited number of child-related items such as highchairs, cribs, and baby gates — but these are available by advance request only, so please let us know well before your arrival.

If you’re looking for day care or ski school services, there are child-friendly programs and daycare facilities available in Akakura Onsen, typically open from around 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We’re happy to help you connect with providers or offer suggestions depending on your needs.

We do our best to accommodate early check-in and late check-out requests when possible. If you’d like to arrange this, please send us a message through Airbnb when you book or closer to your stay. Availability depends on our cleaning schedule, especially during busy seasons.

If you arrive early or want to explore after check-out, please let us know in advance. While we don’t have a dedicated luggage storage area since the whole lodge is reserved for you, we’ll do our best to adjust check-in or check-out times to help make your stay comfortable.

We provide fast, reliable fiber optic Wi-Fi throughout the lodge, with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks available. Cell/mobile phone reception is good in all areas except the concrete basement.

We don’t offer rentals directly, but we can connect you with several trusted local rental shops, including options for specific brands or models. Most places offer discounts if you book online in advance. If you have questions or need recommendations, just send us an email before your stay.

Most guests arrive via the Nagano or Joetsu train stations, both about a 30 to 40-minute drive from the lodge. Roads are fully paved and regularly plowed, but snowy conditions in winter can slow travel. Since there’s no public transport or amenities within walking distance, renting a car at either station is essential for convenient access and exploring the area comfortably.

Google Maps is generally reliable for directions, but be cautious—some smaller rural roads may not be plowed in winter. Stick to main routes when possible. The ETC toll gate at Kurohime/Shinanomachi accepts both cash and card, though toll roads aren’t necessary for most local travel. They’re only recommended if you’re heading farther out to areas like Hakuba or Charmont.

We strongly recommend using a 4WD or AWD vehicle in winter. Local authorities may block access to mountain roads and ski resorts if you’re driving a 2WD, even with snow chains. Steep roads, heavy snowfall, and limited visibility can all make conditions challenging — and while Japan’s roads are well maintained, it’s common for rural areas to have deep drainage ditches along the edges, which can be hazardous if you’re unfamiliar.
We keep a limited number of emergency items at the lodge, including traction tracks, ice scrapers, and basic roadside kits — just in case your rental car doesn’t come equipped.

Absolutely. Guests often bring their own ingredients or special recipes to enjoy during their stay. The kitchen includes a large fridge/freezer, rice cooker, blender, microwave, and a full set of cookware. All appliances are modern except for the commercial-grade stove, stainless sink, and countertops — well-used, but fully functional.

We also provide essentials like salt, pepper, oil, sugar, tea, and several coffee options. For brewing, there’s a 5-cup siphon coffee maker, a pour-over drip set (with filter and glass beaker), and a standard drip machine. We don’t have a pod-based system (these aren’t very common in Japan), and we don’t provide an espresso machine — we recommend checking out the excellent local cafés for that.

Yes, the nearest hospitals are in Myoko Kogen and Shinano-machi, both about a 10–15 minute drive from the lodge. These hospitals generally operate during regular business hours and have pharmacies nearby where you can get prescription and over-the-counter medicine.

For serious or after-hours medical care, larger hospitals are located in Nagano city, approximately 35–50 minutes away by car.

If you need to visit a hospital, please bring your passport and cash, as these are typically required for treatment. Foreign guests are advised to check with their embassy before travel regarding medical services and insurance coverage.

There are also several well-stocked pharmacies in the area for general health needs.
